Chutzpah in the Chi Comedy

Chutzpah in the Chi is THE Jewish Comedy Show in Chicago. Like our people, this show will nomadically travel throughout the city each month. Each show will feature a different incredible line-up of local Jewish comedians doing their best Jewish material. Our shows will be packed with humor, heart, and a lot of chutzpah!

Our mission is to create more spaces for Jews to laugh and feel safe in comedy, no matter their religious beliefs or political views. This is a space dedicated to celebrating Jewish comedy. It starts in Chicago, and we aim to continue this visibility across the country.

Then came October 7, and she “wasn’t laughing. No one was laughing.” A believer that “if you don’t laugh, you cry,” Schwab found her impetus.

She went for it. Open mic nights all the time. The process humbling and failures frequent, each time she got back on stage to try again.

Fittingly, Schwab hosts “Chutzpah in the Chi,” a Jewish comedy showcase that offers a safe space for laughter, no matter one’s religious beliefs or political views. She’s also a founding producer of the Windy City Comedy Festival, a platform for and celebration of emerging talent, established professionals, and Chicago’s deep comedic history.

Josh Cahn plays comedy clubs across the country, performing to thousands of people every month. In 2023, he was awarded “Best Next Jewish Comedian” by The Chosen Comedy Festival, at which he was able to share a stage with some of his heroes in comedy, from Dave Attell to Jeff Ross to Jessica Kirson.

The Long Island native performs for both Jewish and non-Jewish audiences; in all settings, he showcases his Jewish identity prominently in his act.

“Yes, I am a Jew,” he shared with an audience. “It’s part of my personality—it may be my entire personality.”

-Cindy Sher, Jewish Chicago
